Watching the original Tron. Thirty-eight years later, it still holds up. Watched Tron: Legacy last night. Lots of nice little Easter eggs from the original. Also, Olivia Wilde.

Tron is my favorite movie of all time. I watched it on Disney+ when it came out and I can’t believe how clear it is.
As for Tron: Legacy, I watched it 3 times in a row at the theater on its its opening day. Still love it.

Still haven't watched any of them. Might see if I can watch the original some time.

Greetings Program! I can’t tell you how many quarters I put into the Tron game back in the day. I was in HS when this movie came out. The tanks are still my favorite.

Start with the original, to be sure. It’s a pretty amazing feat for 1982.

That’s pretty wild. I’ve never seen that. There is an arcade here in town called Pinballz that has lots of older machines of all sorts, including an original Tron game. I played it, but really sucked. Then again, it’s been more than 30 years since I last played it.

I played the original game at the arcade too! It was so damn hard! Light cycles were always my thing but I loved all of it.

I have the TRON rom for mame, but unfortunately it’s a pain in the ass to try to play without the intended dial and joystick combo.

I was trying to explain it to my 14 year olds, how you only had four challenges and they just got harder. I have an arcade emulator on my old eMac that had the ROMs from lots of classic 80s games, including Tron. Unfortunately, without the spinning aiming wheel, it was almost impossible to play. You had to use the arrow keys, and that just didn’t cut it. I have played a crap ton of Moon Patrol, though, and Rush’n Attack.

I just made that exact comment to somebody else in this post. I’ve also got the Zaxxon ROM, but that suffers from the same controllability challenges. There is a local retro arcade here in town that has an original Iron machine in it. I played it, but I sucked. It’s been almost 40 years.

it would be neat to try to use something like the Atari paddle controllers I have, but those don’t rotate 360 degrees.

I just realized that the actress who played Lora/Yori in Tron also played Lacey Underall in Caddyshack.

Love both movies, but man do I especially love Legacy's soundtrack.

I love me some Rush ‘n Attack! About an hour from my house is The Strong National Museum of Play and they have a vide o game arcade that is arguably as big as any arcade I’ve been in my whole life and I still get some arcade-Tron in when I’m there. I’m even worse at it now than what I was back then.
And Lacey Underall is still one of the best movie character names ever invented.

Amazing movies.
TRON: Legacy is one of my absolute favorites. I enjoy the plot, but for those who lack imagination or the ability to have fun watching a movie, think of it a feature-film length Daft Punk music video featuring Olivia Wilde and it becomes I’d argue even better.
That soundtrack is a seminal work of music. I am struggling to think of many other movies with original music so perfectly attuned to what is happening on screen.

Watch the TRON cartoon on there too. It’s really good.

I always used to play the Tron table arcade game. It had the bikes etc.. I would love to find one of those to buy now.

It’s quite good, but I was particularly taken with Wendy Carlos’ score to the original. It really captures the film and the era.

I Would argue that Brad Fiedel’s score to the original Terminator fits that description.

I need to try watching the original with my kids (5, 3, and 1 year old). They like the first one (“the movie where the guy goes into the computer ” as my 3 year old calls it ).

There is one slightly disturbing scene at the beginning where a program is tortured and derezzed. And it can be a bit slow at times. But it’s beautiful to look at.

Seriously, Legacy's soundtrack is simply phenomenal.
